A Maryland man was sentenced to seven years in jail on Friday for carjacking a ride-share automobile in Southeast D.C. in 2022.

Derrick Teeter, 32, of Oxon Hill, requested a Lyft experience on June 2, 2022, to go from the 3800 block of South Capitol Street to the 600 block of forty sixth Street, based on the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.

While within the again seat of the automobile on the passenger facet, Teeter mentioned he was feeling sick and requested the motive force to tug over right into a grassy space. After exiting the automobile, prosecutors mentioned that Teeter requested the motive force for some water and tissue.

That’s when Teeter pushed the motive force to the bottom, jumped into the passenger seat and tried to drive away, based on a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.

“While mendacity on the bottom, the sufferer grabbed the passenger’s door of his automobile, yelling for the defendant to ‘cease,’” prosecutors mentioned in a press release, including that Teeter “stored driving and dragged the sufferer for a brief distance.”

When the Lyft driver was in a position to rise up, officers mentioned the sufferer flagged down one other driver, who referred to as 911. The automobile was recovered the next day.

Teeter request to be sentenced beneath the District’s Youth Rehabilitation Act, which permits various sentences for younger defendants, was denied by the courtroom.
